Even MORE Hypocrisy...

Why go to the zoo if you're going to say something like "the poor polar bear looks hot in his tiny, confined living space?" YOU ARE ADDING TO THE HYPOCRISY OF A ZOO AND ANIMALS IN CAPTIVITY IF YOU ARE GOING TO THE ZOO WITH YOUR CHILDREN TO LOOK AT ANIMALS!!!!! You can't have it both ways! The animals didn't choose to live in captivity, you chose to go to the zoo to see said animal. GET OVER IT.

More Hypocrisy...

Just more evidence that hypocrisy runs deep, the new "Boycott BP" movement. Need I point out, there is an OIL spill in the Gulf of Mexico, not a BP spill. It is OIL killing wildlife and destroying the LA coast, not BP. Yes, it happens to be owned and managed by BP, but this could've easily happened to any other oil company. We are so quick to blame and point fingers, use that "blame" energy and find a way for us to not be so friggin dependent on OIL. You hypocritic asses...passing up BP to go to Speedway instead does not make you eco-friendly, it makes you a hypocrite.

That's all I got for today...

Hypocrisy...

I just want to point out, hypocrisy is running rampant in our society. Obama haters and Obama lovers are the same. Obama lovers talk about "narrow-minded" people and even flat out "stupid" people, often blaming the rising numbers of Obama haters on the "evil" politicking of Glenn Beck. Obama haters pull out the blame game just as easily, also calling people "stupid" and "narrow-minded" and "uninformed."

I ask someone to point out the difference between Rachel Maddow and Glenn Beck, aside from their obviously different political view points. They are both ENTERTAINERS for either side, the ultra-liberal and the ultra-conservative. I ask you to remember (and try youtube if you can't) that Glenn Beck ALSO complained about and attacked George Bush while he was in office...Glenn Beck makes his money by pointing out the errors of whoever is in charge to stir up the hypocrisy of the mindless people out there that don't wish to take the time to inform THEMSELVES. One thing I will say about Beck, though, is that he doesn't sink to the ridiculous levels of Maddow by calling people "Teabaggers," which, if you don't know what kind of negative street slang that is, I suggest you take a peak at Urban Dictionary and figure it out.

Here's an idea, people. Instead of spending MONTHS on the internet researching the iPad or whatever ridiculously over-priced gadget Steve Jobs and Steve whateverthespellingofhisnameis comes up with that we don't really need, read some news, and read alot of different sources. Become an informed citizen, turn off the damn cable news, and THEN complain. Don't forget, right or wrong, people are entitled to their own opinion, no matter how narrow-minded, backward, or old-fashioned you think it is...it's THEIR opinion.

I Made It Through the Rain...

It's pouring down rain, again, so being inspired by Barry Manilow, here are the things this week that helped me make it through the rain...

**The TBDBITLetter...working on it has made me see how awesome our alumni are and so proud to be a part of making their accomplishments known.

**Princess went to the park and played (mostly) without help

**I got Princess's laundry washed and put away in one day, a task that usually takes multiple days.

**Princess only had 2 major breakdowns this week

**Princess woke up exceptionally early this morning and, rather unusually, crawled into bed between us and went to sleep, all on her own....which then broke my heart when I had to get up and go to work, but then...

**I came home from work, opened the door, and heard "MOMMY'S HOME!!!" and played the rest of the day...

So I Say......Thank You For the Music

Arts curriculum is dying out all over public schools in the US, even though it is, in fact, a "core" class (do the research, you'll find it). But why? As I type, my 4year old, today we shall call her "she who rises too early," is sitting on the floor beside me playing the "drums" on an oatmeal container with a wooden spoon. What is so terrible about that? She loves to sing, she loves to dance, she loves to play with my guitar, she can get an actual sound out of a trumpet by buzzing her lips properly, she loves to pretend that she is playing drums by using a vast array of things....

So why are we so quick to dismiss the arts?

The Stars are NEVER Aligned...

So today, Ohio State announced a Bachelor program in Public Affairs...only about 15 years too late....

The price of tuition at Ohio State right now for one quarter is more than tuition for an entire year when I started school 13 years ago...

In other news, I'm sick and tired of hearing about Lebron and Tiger Woods. Those are two athletes that I could go 6 months without hearing a word about and I would be content....

Also tired of hearing "speculation" about Big Televen expansion. Do it, don't do it, make a freakin move, would ya?

American Politics is the most hypocritical, two-faced entity in existence, even more than the Catholic Church. Both sides of the aisle point fingers and blame the other side....for pointing fingers and blaming the other side. How does this help ANYONE?

Social networking is changing the face of the planet. One mention of words like "gay" "liberal" "conservative" "immigration" starts a whole firestorm of blame, rumor, and speculation. But on the other hand, it's super easy to see what's going on all over the world...

Music is a dying art form, but those that make fun of "band fags" are clearly just jealous they don't have the patience to acquire the skill....

Children with special needs are becoming pawns in the political landscape of America. There is never a day where "autism" "on the spectrum" "adhd" are not the headline of some news story, but have you ever tried to get a diagnosis? Waiting lists are such that you almost need to make an appointment at birth to get your child diagnosed. How can that be when so many young people in college make that the focus of their education? Surely there is more than one doctor in a major metropolitan area, like Columbus, that can make such a diagnosis....

Why I'm So Mad This Time...

I am a Cleveland fan. I ate dog biscuits in the 80s and cried, twice, when the Browns blew it, thus beginning a life-long hatred of the Broncos that has only waned recently with the hiring of Josh McDaniels; I sat on the edge of the old chair in our living room in Massillon, sure that the Cavs were gonna move on to the NBA Finals, only to watch Michael Jordan be Michael Jordan and make "The Shot;" I watched the Indians, with the most wins in MLB History, tank against the Braves, who went from worst to first, then, just 2 years later, Jose Mesa blows the save and Tony Fernandez botches a routine double-play and the MARLINS beat MY Indians in Game 7 to win the World Series; I watched those same Indians (well, not "same" as in same guys) take a 3-1 ALCS lead on the Boston Red Sox, only to blow it AGAIN; I watched the Browns spend ALOT of money on a campaign called "This Year" instead of the Cleveland saying "there's always next year," only to see them get like 4 wins; I watched the Cavs shock everyone and make it to the NBA Finals, only to get swept by the Spurs; I watched the Cavs fail to break a sweat to get to the Eastern Conference Finals, only to look like chumps against Orlando. Not to mention....OH YEAH...Art Modell, may he forever rot in hell, MOVED OUR FREAKING TEAM. So you'd think, especially since it is only May and the Indians are already eliminated from everything, I'd be ok with the fact the Cavs are gonna lose to the Celtics before ever reaching the Eastern Conference Finals. I'm not.

Let me tell you WHY I'm not. Is this the best team ever? No....not by a long shot. Shaq, god love him, is too old to be "Shaq," and any fool that thought he was gonna come in here and be "Shaq" deserves to be hit with a shalaly stick and laughed at. But he has come here and done what was expected of him. The rest of the team...eh, they're ok. Then there's Lebron...the King....back-to-back MVP seasons...the second-coming of Michael Jordan. Well I'll admit it, I have been preparing for him to leave the Cavs for two years now....I just never thought he'd do it while wearing a Cavs uniform. That was the worst performance by an MVP in any professional sport I've ever seen. Is he allowed to have an "off" night? I don't know...is he? Did Michael Jordan? Who remembers when MJ had the flu and put up AMAZING stats in the Finals? Oh I bet you could find some people in Utah that do...

What's my point, then? Why am I so mad? All those other collosal collapses, with the exception of the new-Browns, came while the team was at least TRYING. "The Drive" started on Denver's own 1 or 2 yard line and it was John Elway; "The Fumble" came after almost 30 points down and the Browns fought back to 1 yard away from tying the game; the Indians just choked, but an error can happen at any time; the Red Sox were juiced (Manny & Ortiz both juiced). But last night, the Cavs didn't even try. They looked like a high school team, in awe at the pure chance to scrimmage an NBA team. The best defense in the league was continually picked apart by an offense that throughout the season was metiocre, at best. The Celtics are old, and they're a group of guys playing like it's their last shot at a winner. The Cavs are playing like a team that is entitled to a championship because of phrases like "Win a Ring for the King" and "We Are All Witnesses." Witnesses....to what?

When Did I Get Old?

I have been living in denial, and for quite some time. Thursday, my chapter of my sorority turned 60, and last night we had a party. It was at the brand new Ohio Union, which is SUPER beautiful, by the way. There were most of the current actives, and a small spattering (SHOULD have been more) of alumni there.

For me, someone still involved with the active chapter, it was such a good thing to look around the room and see actives sitting amongst alumni, and even actives you would never think "yeah they'll be inseperable." And some faces from the past were fabulous to see, because it has just been too damn long!!! After hearing a wonderful up-to-date presentation from the lovely officer board, we were privileged to hear from Martha Nichols Tykodi, one of the original Buckeye Band Girls and charter member of the Chi Chapter. As with most members of her generation, she had many stories to tell the girls and wonderful words of encouragement, championing more involvement for women, and reminding the girls that there was a time when women were simply not accepted.
We were also graced with a visit from Dr. E. Gordon Gee, President of Ohio State, who has a staff of people that literally follow him around carrying cameras to take pictures. I want that job, and I am NOT kidding.

Following the most interesting ritual I've ever been a part of (the use of candles was not permitted, so the lights were on...), we headed to the Varsity Club (because, naturally, we never go anywhere else). We were there until the lights came on for "last call was a while ago, now get the hell outta here." I at no point felt drunk, though I did have much to drink, and today, I am paying for it. I would like someone to hit me in the head with a sledgehammer, because it couldn't possibly make my head feel worse. So I ask, when did I get old? I didn't sign up for this shit!!!
