Arts curriculum is dying out all over public schools in the US, even though it is, in fact, a "core" class (do the research, you'll find it). But why? As I type, my 4year old, today we shall call her "she who rises too early," is sitting on the floor beside me playing the "drums" on an oatmeal container with a wooden spoon. What is so terrible about that? She loves to sing, she loves to dance, she loves to play with my guitar, she can get an actual sound out of a trumpet by buzzing her lips properly, she loves to pretend that she is playing drums by using a vast array of things....
So why are we so quick to dismiss the arts?
